Big thanks to SOCC for the contribution to the fish sanctuary, which really helps our community!
Giovanni, Senior Coral Gardner
I was a fisherman and was skeptical at first about the creation of the fish sanctuary. I have now learned how it will help to bring back the fish, which will benefit me, the community and future generations.
Raymond, Gained scuba certification through the program
The donations provided helped me to get my scuba certification and to get training in coral gardening, which then gave me the opportunity to get a job in the hotel industry.
Giovanni, Senior Coral Gardner
The first time I put on the regulator and opened my eyes underwater, I was like, this is really great! Now we do bi-weekly dives to take care of the coral nursery and check if the coral is in good shape.

Getting scuba training and certification has given me pride knowing that I can do this anywhere in the world. I now work in Florida and I have now donated some of my personal equipment to the sanctuary, which has been good to me and the community.

It was such an honor and privilege to be a judge for the SOCC – WRFS Educational program. Being a judge was very fulfilling and giving my time rewarding the students for their end of program projects. It is important to teach the younger generations that we must take care of our home, Mother Earth.

It was an awesome program not only because in this case, it focussed on environmental issues but also for the fact that children were involved. They are our future and it was so nice to see how much thought they put into both their projects as well as the effects they will potentially have on their respective communities as it pertains to respecting and caring for their environment. It was a pleasure to be a judge and assist with engaging with the students. Kudos to you and the rest of your organization on a job well done and organized!
2024 Judge for SOCC-WTFS Educational program
Watching their enthusiasm and dedication gave me immense hope for the future. The experience was inspiring and humbling. As a judge, I felt honored to contribute to their learning journey by providing feedback. Overall, the environmental competition was a powerful reminder of how education can inspire change. It was a privilege to be part of this event, and I left with a renewed sense of optimism, knowing that these young minds are already contributing to building a more sustainable future for Jamaica.
